Dr. Markus Börner

University of Münster
MEET battery research center

Markus Börner joined the working group of Prof. Martin Winter in 2012 as a PhD student at MEET Battery Research Center of the University of Münster focusing on the investigation of degradation effects and safety properties of lithium ion batteries and the individual components.

After his doctorate and a postdoc position he became head of the division “Cell System” in 2019. The division focuses on the development of novel processing routes and cell designs, in-depth understanding of aging phenomena and the investigation of the safety properties of different battery technologies. Therein, the studies range from lab- to pilot-scale with two in-house pilot battery lines for the production of lithium ion and lithium metal batteries in an established MEET pouch cell format. Beyond that, the battery safety lab enables thermal, electrical, and mechanical safety tests for cells up to 100 Ah.
