The latest insights into battery technology in a concise event
The 18th International Conference on Advanced Battery Power, held from April 14 to 16, 2026, once again brought together experts from academia, research, and development across the entire battery and battery technology value chain. Experts from around the world gathered at the Halle Münsterland Exhibition and Convention Center in Münster to exchange the latest research findings and first-hand information.
For three days, the focus was on the latest research findings, technological innovations, and practical applications. From new cell chemistries and advances in production to issues of scaling, sustainability, and recycling: the range of topics reflected the dynamism of an industry that plays a key role in the energy transition and the mobility of the future.
Once again this year, the international keynote speeches were particularly popular, offering global perspectives and highlighting developments in leading markets. They not only provided technological insights but also sparked ideas for strategic decisions and collaborations.
In addition to the technical program, the 2026 Battery Conference provided, above all, an opportunity for networking. Discussions between startups, established companies, research institutions, and policymakers led to new connections, ideas, and partnerships—often just as valuable as the content presented on stage.
The event was supported by a strong network of organizers and partners, including the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Industry, Climate Protection, and Energy of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (MWIKE), as well as CARL & ISEA (RWTH Aachen University), the MEET Battery Research Center (University of Münster), and the Helmholtz Institute.

As a partner of this year’s Advanced Battery Power Conference in Münster, we were proud to support a platform where industry and academia come together to shape the future of battery technology. - The Advanced Battery Power Conference always feels like a big family reunion, where you meet many of your research colleagues who have been with you for years. At the same time, there is so much insight into brilliant research, and I always leave with many ideas for our own projects and future collaborations. I was happy to share this year's event with two of my Ph.D. students who presented their work on triggering methods in abuse testing and an in-depth analysis of variation in electrochemical impedance measurements. - Fully loaded with fresh inputs after an inspiring Advanced Battery Power Conference in Münster. A common thread across many talks: the opportunity for Europe is now. Focusing on smart and intelligent processing technologies is opening doors across the entire battery value chain. A big thank you to Ralf Lüdemann for representing syntrotec GmbH’s work on innovative battery formation technology in Münster – great to see this topic gaining the attention it deserves. - Over the past three days, I participated in the international Advanced Battery Power Conference in Münster alongside my colleagues from the iPAT - Institute for Particle Technology (Institut für Partikeltechnik) and the BLB+ Braunschweig Labfactories for Batteries and more. I presented a poster on our work on the integration of polysulfide-trapping additives into polymer-based electrolytes and composite cathodes for solid-state lithium-sulfur batteries within the Cluster of Excellence SE²A - Sustainable and Energy-Efficient Aviation. It was a valuable opportunity for discussions, exchanging insights, and learning about the state of the art in battery materials, processes, production and technologies. (Sharif Haidar)
- This week, the Advanced Battery Power Conference 2026 took place in Münster, running from Tuesday to Thursday. Three days packed with interesting discussions and presentations, as well as posters covering every aspect of battery technology. I also had the opportunity to talk about parts of my work at Volkswagen Group and Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) on sodium-ion batteries (SIBs). We analyzed the competitiveness of various SIBs (LTMOs paired with hard carbon) by optimizing volumetric energy density (VED), fast-charging capability, and cost vs. LFP (paired with graphite) across different scenarios. - It was a great opportunity to engage with battery experts, exchange perspectives, and attend the conference together with colleagues from Volkswagen (@Hannes Jahnke, @Alexander Schmidt, @Alexander Dörflinger, Tobias Klein, Jonas Sprengelmeyer, Nele Müller, Simon Hoffmann, Janina Gottschalk).
