EL-CELL

We Advance Battery Research.
EL-CELL develops laboratory equipment for research of energy storage systems, with particular focus on lithium-ion technology and supercapacitors.
We are distinguished by our expertise in electrochemistry and mechanical engineering as well as our eager ambition to develop innovative products. We strongly believe that reliable and simple 3-electrode measurements are the most efficient way to develop new battery materials. This approach proves to be particularly useful in our PAT (Parallel Testing) series, a modular test cell system with the highest standards of efficiency and ease of use. In addition, we offer a variety of in-situ test cells as well as tools for manufacturing battery components in the laboratory. Our complete range of services is rounded out with our own potentiostats, which are precisely tailored to the special requirements of battery research. This allows us to provide you with the complete set-up from a single source to carry out electrochemical experiments.

Safion GmbH

Welcome to Helmholtz Institute Münster (HI MS; IEK-12) of Forschungszentrum Jülich!
As the lifeblood of every battery cell, the electrolyte ensures that all components work effectively together. By electrolyte research, Helmholtz Institute Münster makes a significant contribution to the success of mobility and energy transition. When researching and developing innovative battery cell technologies, scientists at HI MS also ask the key question: How can we ensure the cost-effective and long-term storage of large quantities of generated electricity using a small amount of space?
The priority areas of research are the five classes of electrolytes: solid anionic electrolytes, solid cationic electrolytes, polymer electrolytes, liquid electrolytes, and hybrid electrolytes. HI MS’ existing expertise and infrastructure covers a broad spectrum of the theory, chemistry, and technology behind electrolytes, battery cells, and battery systems.

THINKY’s highly efficient centrifugal mixers enable bubble-free production of e.g. electrode pastes. The thermal conductivity measurement systems from Hot Disk AB can be used to characterize both pure materials and composite materials with regard to their thermophysical properties for thermal management.

Pfeiffer Vacuum

Vacuum Technology and Vacuum Pumps from the leader
For 130 years, the name Pfeiffer Vacuum has served as a guarantee for advanced vacuum technology, high quality vacuum solutions and first-class service. We offer a wide range of process pumps for vacuum drying and electrolyte filling in R&D and Industry environments with outstanding performances for short cycle times and efficiency. With our leak detectors, we are able to leak test battery components, all cell types, battery modules and packs as well as cooling units. Furthermore, baseline investigations in the fields of humidity measurement, permeation and end-of-line testing are possible.
Li-ion batteries have become an integral part of our everyday life. They are used in mobile devices such as laptops, smartphones and other wearables. Batteries are even powering our cars. But how are these compact power storage devices manufactured and what does it all have to do with vacuum and leak detection?
The application of vacuum is required at various stages of production in the manufacture of Li-ion batteries: Vacuum is required during the mixing process of the so-called slurry, which is applied to the battery cell electrodes. The coil drying and electrolyte filling also takes place under vacuum.
In general, the pumps generate the vacuum which is needed for the different production processes. The pumps have to have a high resistance to poisonous and toxic fumes in drying, filling and formation processes. Pfeiffer Vacuum pumps generally are known to be robust and efficient to ensure sustainable production of Li-ion batteries.
